Welcome Snowbirds

Are you planning to spend some time in the Myrtle Beach/Grand Strand area this fall and/or winter? If you’ll be here for just a week, or for a number of months, plan to make All Souls Waccamaw your Unitarian Universalist church home while you are here.

Each year, our congregation swells, as we are joined by folks from as far away as the United Kingdom, as well as from Canada, the Northeastern United States, and the Upper Midwest. Most of these folks are Unitarian Universalists in their home areas; however, some attend other churches at home, and some attend no church, but when they are here, they join us each Sunday because they like us, and they like what we do.

Many of our snowbirds immerse themselves in the congregation, serving as greeters, as “bringers of refreshments”, as worship associates, and even as sermon givers. All are invited to participate in our social events: Circle Dinners and any special celebrations that are held while they are here. And each year, we honor our snowbirds with our Annual Snowbird Dinner Party, usually held in mid- to late- February, when more snowbirds are here than at any other time.

Supplementing our regular 11:00 a.m. Sunday Service, it has been our practice during “snowbird season” to have a 2nd meeting, our always popular “Sunday Morning Forum”, at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday. This is a participatory activity, a structured discussion of topics of interest to Unitarian Universalists.

Besides attending the church, there are many enjoyable activities and places for you to enjoy in this area, including walks on the beach; golfing; side trips to historic Georgetown, Charleston, Savannah, Wilmington and Southport; Brookgreen Gardens; riding the Sky Wheel; shopping and amusements at Broadway at the Beach; live shows at several theaters; numerous movie theaters; outlet mall shopping; “Scholars Forum” meetings at the Georgetown library; and Lifelong Learning classes at Coastal Carolina University.

We have snowbirds who return year after year after year. We hope you’ll join us. See you soon!
