As the outgoing President of the Board for our beloved All Souls Waccamaw Unitarian Universalist Congregation, I would like to extend my warmest thank you to all our members and guests from the 2017-2019 church seasons. Our little congregation has experienced many challenges but many successful efforts as well. We survived two hurricanes, two major floods, and a continually devastating period of political influence that represents little of our nation’s founding father’s vision or our congregation’s Seven Principles. I have to remind myself daily “This too shall pass.” We are a hearty and resilient family.
Many hands make light work and with that in mind, I want to extend a sincere thank you to our to previous board members: Vice Presidents Phyllis Stewart and Matt Harlowe, Secretary Barb Landrum, Treasurer Chuck Wimberly, and Member at Large Sue Pearly .
I also want to acknowledge the efforts of our Pulpit Chairs Phyllis Stewart and Carli Harlowe, our Membership Coordinators Sally Hattig and Wendy Baruch, our Social Outreach Deb Bonner, our Religious Education leader Rocken Roll, our Pianist Emanuel Freitas, our dedicated volunteers maintaining the grounds Don Skleener, Frank Eaton, Gene Dailey, and Veronica Walters, and our amazing Velasco family for their efforts rebuilding our church sign after the unsolicited re-decorating performed by the SCDOT during the Hwy 707 road expansion project. To each of you, and to so many more, thank you so much for your commitment and contributions.
Going forward, we will need more volunteers for the many tasks required to maintain the health of our church. Please contact President Elect Matt Harlowe if interested in sharing your time and gifts.
Starting in June, we have an exciting summer series lined up to inspire and strengthen our community. We have adopted a children’s curriculum for our Religious Education classes called “Character First” for our young ones focusing on leadership development. Visit our schedules for more info.
I look forward to seeing all your smiling faces this summer!
