What Can I Expect When I Visit The Church?

This page will take you through the process of attending one of our services, from entry into the parking area through the post-service social hour.

For directions to our church, visit the page "Finding Us".

The driveway into our parking area is on the south side of the church. Use one of the choice spaces marked "Reserved for Church Visitors" (See picture below) on the left side of the drive, or pick an open space.

You should plan to arrive no later than 10:55 for our 11:00 (the only) service. If you are bringing children for Nursery care or for the Children's Religious Education Class, you might shoot for 10:50 or earlier.

Although our building looks suspiciously like a residence with an inviting front door, you should enter through the back door; there is a ramp for the physically challenged (and for those who just prefer a ramp to stairs).

Inside the door, you'll be met by a greeter; he or she will make you a name tag, and ask you to fill out a guest card. You'll probably be given some flyers about our church and/or about Unitarian Universalism. Also, you'll be given a one-page bulletin with the day's Order Of Service and some announcements. If you bring children, someone will show you where the Nursery is and where the Children's Religious Education meets.

You'll leave the Nursery-age child or children with the caregiver, and take the older child or children into the main meeting room with you. If your children don't separate well, you can take all of your children with you to the meeting room, and keep them with you through the service, if you want to.

If you remember (and many don't), pick up a hymnal from the bookcase outside the meeting room, go on in, and find a seat.

The children will be at the first part of the service, which concludes with the Children's story. Then, we'll "sing them out", and they'll go to their Religious Education class. The adults will remain for the rest of the service.

Each of our regular services typically includes music, readings, and a sermon or talk. The speaker of the day may be a visiting minister or speaker, a member, or someone from the community. A social time with refreshments follows the service.

Our typical order of service is outlined here.

After the end of the service we serve refreshments, and we talk. One or more people will probably engage you in conversation, but they won't try to "convert" you or get you to join. Take this as an opportunity to meet people and to ask questions.

We are a small congregation. We usually have 25-40 people at our service. During the winter months, when we are joined by our "snowbird" friends, we usually have 40-60 people.
